Japanese Swords : Antique Swords : Gendaito By Kuniyasu SOLD

Gendaito By Kuniyasu

Circa - 1930's

Signature - Kuniyasu

Blade Length - 26.5 inches

Sori - 1.8cm / .7 inch

Tsuka 25.25cm / 10 inches

The sword is mounted with a black textured Saya, horn Kurikata, Brass Shitadome and Green Sageo.

The Tsuba is 19th Century rounded square iron plate, pierced Bamboo Leaf and Snowflake designs the plate has a double sided concave shape and nice iron hue.

The Fuchi/Kashira are matching Shakudo with a Tiger in a Bamboo forest, the Tiger depicted in raised relief and Gold leafed. The Fuchi/Kashira date from the late 1800's and are well carved in mint condition.

The Menuki are a pair of Shakudo horses with gold highlights.

The Tsuka is bound in Green Silk Tsukaito with large grain Same.

-The Blade-

Kuniyasu forged this blade in the Mino tradition with regular zigzag Gunome Hamon, tight Itame Hada and (almost) O'Kissaki with a turnback Boshi which is typical of the style.

The Blade has only a few scuffs and spots here and there, but all aspects are clearly visable and would only require a minimal polish to bring it back to perfector may still be appreciated as is.

-Comments-

Kuniyasu is listed and pictured on page 165 of the Gendaito Meikan (A book of noted Gendai period swordsmiths). The sword is suitable for cutting / Iaido. A good sword by a noted smith, well mounted in a nice Koshirae and well priced at $3200-.
