Satsuma Katana

The first of our Historical Series, the Satsuma Katana has been meticulously researched. The Koshirae design we have used comes from 2 Japanese Exhibition catalogs mounted with fittings reproduced from our original Satsuma pieces.

Blade: Hammer forged, 29inch Nagasa, Shinogi Zukuri type.

Sori: 1.8cm

Kissaki: Medium with turnback Tempered Hamon.

Habaki: Solid Silver.

Koshirae

Saya: Black Laquered half ribbed with hand carved channels, mounted with Buffalo Horn Koiguchi, Kurikata and Kojiri Brass Shitodome and Black Sageo.

Tsuka: 33.5cms long with lacquered black large grain Same and Black Silk Ito. The Menuki are Gold Leafed Solid Silver Imported from Japan and are the Shimazu Clan Crest of 3 circle with a cross. (The Shimazu Clan ruled SatsumaProvince through the Warring States Period until the Meiji Restoration).

Tsuba: Moulded from our original depicting the Shimazu Clan Crest carved in Sukashi form with a twisted rope pattern outer edge.
